Nanomicelles for the Management of Allergic Airway Diseases

Asthma and allergic rhinitis are two examples of allergic airway disorders, which are common chronic respiratory diseases that have a major impact on patients’ quality of life. The standard medications used for treatment may cause negative effects. As a result, developing novel and safe treatment options for allergic airway disorders is critical. Nanomicelles (NMs) have emerged as a viable treatment for allergic airway disorders. NMs are self-assembling spherical nanoparticles (NPs) with a hydrophobic core and a hydrophilic shell. They can encapsulate medications and target specific cells or tissues, resulting in increased efficacy and decreased toxicity. NMs can deliver continuous and tailored release of anti-inflammatory medications, such as glucocorticoids or cyclosporine, minimizing the likelihood of adverse responses. Furthermore, NMs can be designed to be stable in the presence of stimuli like pH, temperature, storage conditions, and light, allowing for controlled drug release at the desired spot. NMs have been proven in preclinical investigations to have strong anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects in allergic airway disease models. As a result, NMs have the potential to transform the treatment of allergic airway illnesses by circumventing the limits of traditional therapies and providing more targeted and efficient medication delivery.
