摘要

Dendrimers are three-dimensional polymers that are characterized by their precisely structured hyper-branches and present a cutting-edge polymeric nanoformulation with remarkable biological efficacy. Their repetitive structure and ability to encapsulate drugs adds a valuable dimension on allergic airway disorders, particularly asthma. PAMAM dendrimers, synthesized via a divergent method, effectively encapsulate anti asthmatic drugs such as beclomethasone dipropionate and methylprednisolone, ensuring targeted delivery, improved solubility, and sustained release. Particularly, surface-modified dendrimers and those loaded with diagnostic or therapeutic agents showcase outstanding biological activity against asthma. Their PEGylation further reduces toxicity and enhances water solubility. Within this chapter, we intricately explore the pivotal role and biomedical applications of dendrimers in asthma management. Rigorous clinical trials are necessary for establishing safety and efficacy, paving the way for personalized asthma treatments. Collaborative efforts among researchers, clinicians, and formulation scientists are crucial for translating dendrimer-based therapies into routine clinical practice for pulmonary diseases.
