Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Pollutants Using Heterojunction Nanocomposite Based on Bismuth Compound

In the pursuit of sustainable and effective photocatalytic materials, bismuth-based nanocomposites with their distinctive electronic and structural properties have arisen as promising materials. This book chapter investigates the photocatalytic activity of various bismuth-based nanocomposites which includes bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6), bismuth vanadate (BiVO4), bismuth oxide (Bi2O3), bismuth molybdate (Bi2MoO6), bismuth sulphide (Bi2S3), bismuth subcarbonates ((BiO)2CO3) and shedding light on their potential applications in environmental remediation. Through an exhaustive review of recent research, the synthesis techniques, structural characteristics and photocatalytic mechanisms are explored. In addition, we emphasise the role of bismuth-based nanocomposites in addressing contemporary challenges, such as water purification, pollutant degradation, comprehensive understanding of the photocatalytic capabilities of bismuth-based nanocomposites and their future prospects in the advancement of sustainable and green technologies.
