Biomass for Active and Eco-friendly Cosmetic Packaging

Mostly, cosmetic products use plastic for the material packaging, because it is easy to form into various shapes and can protect cosmetic products well at an affordable cost. However, plastic is a material derived from petroleum, which cannot be renewed and after its use cannot be decomposed naturally, causing problems in the environment. Due to this, the development of cosmetic packaging based on biomass has attracted the attention of researchers to create effective and environmentally friendly cosmetics packaging. Besides its function as cosmetics product protection, cosmetic packaging also has an important function to advertise the product and to influence customers’ perspectives. This paper outlines cosmetic packaging in general, the advantages and disadvantages of current cosmetic packaging, and the development of biodegradable plastics. It also describes the other bio-based materials as active cosmetic packaging materials.
