Interweaving and Linking Digital, Analogue and Outdoor Learning Through Artistic Experiences in a Slovenian Primary School
摘要
In this chapter, the impact of teaching distance learning in primary school through artistic practices is presented. The study was part of a Slovenian national project entitled Developing Communication Competencies through Cultural-Art Education (SKUM), with different educational institutions (universities, research institutes, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools) as partners. The topic of the study connected analogue and digital learning using new technologies with outdoor learning during the Covid-19 pandemic and developed an innovative model of learning through artistic practices. The study involved fifth-grade pupils, two teachers, a dance artist and university experts in the field of dance and puppetry. A qualitative analysis of data obtained through written feedback and participants reflections was conducted. The findings of the study indicate that arts integration during distance learning provided creative, inclusive, and innovative approaches to learning and teaching that were highly valued by teachers, pupils, parents, and the artist. The pupils benefited socially, emotionally and in terms of gaining motivation to learn and acquire knowledge and skills related to new technologies and artistic practices. Both the parents and the pupils pointed out the benefits of the project connecting to nature and the advantages of learning with all the human senses. The innovative forms of learning introduced by the artist and the interweaving of art with other curricula areas promoted the pupils’ awareness of the importance of human relationships, the preservation of nature and the wellbeing of humanity, as well as the introduction of innovative solutions to the problems of today’s challenging times. It was a meaningful experience for the participating teachers, who recognised the importance of placing artistic experiences at the centre of teaching and learning.
