Assessment of the Possibility of Ignition of Paste-Like Fuel in a Nozzle Bomb

The paper examines a new design of a nozzle bomb designed to study the ignition and combustion of various types of paste fuel. It is a ballistic installation with a barrel length of 3.5 cm and a variable volume chamber. The design provides the ability to implement different initial combustion surfaces. To ignite the fuel, an ignition charge is required. The work considers the possibilities of ignition using a sample of fast-burning gunpowder. Preliminary calculations of loading conditions with paste fuel and igniter were carried out based on the conditions of not exceeding the permissible maximum pressure. Combustion calculations were carried out for one type of igniter, the possibility of obtaining different igniter pressures by changing its weight and nozzle diameter. This achieves the required pressure for fuels that ignite at a fixed pressure. The conditions for achieving the required pressure pulse during combustion of the igniter for fuels that ignite at a fixed pressure pulse are shown. Using the example of such a slow-burning paste fuel, the conditions for its ignition are shown for different nozzle diameters and different diameters of the fuel sample and a fixed nozzle opening pressure. The possibility of igniting fuel with an open nozzle when pressure increases or decreases, as well as with a closed nozzle, is considered.
