Ballistic Limit of a Compound Projectile Impacting a Thin Metal Target
摘要
The paper proposes a method for obtaining the dependence of the residual velocity on the impact velocity and determining the ballistic limit of a thin metal target impacted by a projectile with deformable nose. The problem was solved in a two-dimensional axisymmetric formulation using a deterministic approach to the description of failure. The homogeneous model proposed earlier by the authors was used to describe the deformation of the nose section. The results of numerical simulation are compared with known analytical solutions and experimental results. A good correspondence is obtained between the numerical results and the results from analytical models and experiments. The method can be used to assess the impact-penetrating action of high-speed aircraft impact and to estimate the resistance of protective barriers to such an impact.
