Analysis of the Effect of Anti-Roll Bar Stiffness on the Lateral Stability of Trucks

摘要

The article deals with the study of the effect of the anti-roll bar's torsional stiffness on the truck's lateral stability. A full vertical oscillation model of a 2-axle truck is used to study. The front and rear suspension is a dependent type with leaf springs, equipped with anti-roll bars (stabilizer bar) at the front and rear axles. Important parameters that affect the roll stability of truck are the stiffness value of suspensions, stiffness value of tires and stiffness value of the stabilizer bar. The main content of this study is to analyze the effect of anti-roll bar torsional stiffness value on the lateral stability. The truck moves in a straight line, considering that the wheels are subjected to the step excitation of the road surface. In this case, it can be considered that the vehicle collides with a hard obstacle on the road surface. And, this can lead to large changes in the vertical load of the wheels on each axle and wheel separation may occur and this leads to tripped rollover. In this study, the lateral load ratio is used to evaluate the lateral stability of the truck. Analysis results show that the reasonable torsional stiffness value of the stabilizer bar is in the range of 8000–10000 (Nm/rad) which is to reduce the wheel separation ability or minimize the possibility of vehicle rollover.
