Analysis of the Effect of Materials on the Thermal Change of the Clutch Friction Disc

The clutch is a mechanical device located between the engine and the transmission. During operation, the friction disc will have a certain slip with the flywheel. This interaction causes the generation of frictional heat leading to a sudden increase in the temperature on the friction surfaces. Therefore, this study focuses on analyzing the thermal change when changing the material of the clutch friction surface. Solidworks application to design 3D models of clutch discs and finite element method to analyze temperature changes at friction disc surfaces using ANSYS. The simulation results show that in the materials used to make the surface of the clutch friction disc, the Kevlar material has a temperature increase of 22.683 ℃ compared to the initial temperature when the clutch slip occurs. Thereby, this study will be the basic data source to serve the fabrication and improvement of the durability of clutch discs in industrial parks or automobile manufacturing plants.
