Researching Design and Fabricating Process for Orthopedic Trauma Brace Using FDM in Vietnam

FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) is being applied in the field of fabricating orthopedic trauma braces with significant potential, especially in developing countries. Apart from using traditional bands and casting methods, which still have many limitations and can cause unwanted consequences, the application of 3D printing bands has many advantages, such as aesthetic appeal, customization, lightweight, and increased comfort for patients. The objective of this study is to carry out the design and fabricating process for wrist-hand orthosis using PLA and PETG material with FDM open-source equipment suitable for the situation of developing countries, such as Vietnam. Especially focusing on Design For Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) and calculating the strength of wrist-hand orthosis. Our team will also propose a delivery process for patients and further research directions.
