Rose Oxide as Fragrance Molecule, Production Aspects, and Future Prospects

摘要

Aroma is one of the essential components of the flavor and fragrance industry. There has been a demand for natural aromatic products around the globe for ages. However, their synthesis is a challenging task for the manufacturers. Rose oxide is one such aromatic fragrance chemical present in roses, and its chemical synthesis from citronellol is a popular method among the manufacturers. Recent developments in the production of rose oxide suggest that there is another method also reported for the biotransformation of citronellol into rose oxide which is a single-step reaction accomplished by microbes. The microbe-mediated transformation is totally an unexplored area in this field which needs more attention from advanced tools like systems biology through which the microbial-mediated process can be developed providing efficient yield. In this chapter, our attention will be directed toward physiochemical properties and applications in different industries, exploring the latest breakthroughs and innovations in production methods like biological as well as chemical approaches for rose oxide.
