Bridging the Gap: An Extended Challenge-Based Learning Framework for University-Industry Collaboration

In this study, we present an enhanced Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) framework that incorporates an open innovation approach to higher education. Our framework is designed to foster collaboration between universities and industries by providing students with real-world industry challenges and opportunities to apply their knowledge and skills. By embracing open innovation, we aim to enrich students’ learning experiences and facilitate the development of innovative solutions to industry problems through the use of technology. We implemented this framework at PUC-Rio’s Technological Innovation Programs, which included undergraduate students from a variety of courses and universities. Our study shows that our enhanced framework improves students’ learning experiences and their personal and professional development.
