Models, Metamodels and Transformations for Medical Informatics Ecosystems

The development of complex technological systems in healthcare often faces challenging information integration problems that do not always have a complete solution. This paper proposes using model-driven software engineering concepts to address these issues. Specifically, we analyze scenarios involving information sources with predefined data models and information sources with changing data models conforming to a common meta-model. We propose the creation of tailored transformation chains adapted to these scenarios. The approach is illustrated through the creation of an ecosystem for standardized educational material generation by integrating Mosaico (a tool for collaborative production of clinical cases), Clavy (a platform for flexible management of digital object collections), and Moodle (a widely used learning management system).
