Designing Active Learning Experiences for the Remote: Conscious Remote Education

Emergency remote teaching was education's response worldwide to the health confinements of the Covid-19 pandemic, accelerating digital transformation in all sectors. The universities had to design strategies to continue the educational processes using the internet. So far, very little theoretical and empirical evidence indicates the results of the impact and effectiveness of these processes in learning. Most of the studies inquire about the perceptions of students and teachers. The purpose of this document is to present the progress of a doctoral thesis research plan that aims to develop a model digital ecosystem for sustainable learning that responds to the needs of the digital age. This study, supported by design-based research, used qualitative and quantitative instruments to identify the principles necessary for remote active learning experiences. The document has eight sections describing the research proposal: context, motivation and research approach, state of the art, hypothesis/thesis and problem statement, research objectives/goals, research approach, methods, results to date and their validity, dissertation status, and conclusion.
