Victims of Enforced Disappearance in Digital Press Narratives in Colombia and Mexico

Forced disappearance in Latin America presents a disquieting issue concerning the violation of Human Rights. The press and, in particular, narrative journalism, emerge as a safeguard in critically interpreting events, fostering citizenship, and shaping collective memory. This research aims to compare the representation of victims of forced disappearance in the digital press of Colombia and Mexico, based on the analysis of interpretive articles published in 14 online media outlets between 2016 and 2020. The primary methodology is content analysis, supported by Corpus Linguistics and enriched with qualitative methods. As a result, patterns in the use of news frames and communicative representation mechanisms are expected to be revealed, highlighting differences and similarities in the portrayal of victims. The final discussion of the research will take into account the context of media ideologies and their routines, as well as the perspectives of journalists, editors, and victims.
