Possible Applications of ChatGPT in Higher Education

The emergence of ChatGPT has affected the educational field. ChatGPT will likely become a student support tool for achieving their education goals as the awareness rises. Therefore, it is important to direct academic research into leveraging new technology opportunities and aligning existing teaching, learning, and assessing practices. The aim of this paper is to provide a brief introduction to ChatGPT capabilities and possible applications in Higher Education based on a literature survey. Further, directions for future research are going to be discussed. The educational technology field has the possibility to utilize it in order to change and improve the process of learning. Aspects of blended and self-regulated learning can be enhanced by incorporating ChatGPT into the student learning process as a support tool. Therefore, the focus of further research should be on efficient ways of incorporating ChatGPT into learning environments.
