Introduction

This chapter introduces the transformative features of agro-farming practices, its genesis and coparallel evolution with human civilization and opens a cognitive discussion on the shifting paradigms of agriculture, agro-business and farming technology with the advent of socio-political needs for development, economic sustainability and overall challenges for food security. In this dynamic settings, indigenous traditions swapped with advanced agro-farming systems leaving lacunae between the policy and practice. Apropos that it ponders upon the adaptiveness and sustainability of conventional agro-farming in the south and southeast Asian ecoregion, contrary to the disappearing indigenous farming practices in this climate milieu and as well the impacts of market driven policies in the post pandemic period, to create opportunities in deliberating about the synergistic and antagonistic aspects of these practices and their coexisting potentials in the community–ecosystem interface.
