Senior Tourism and Destination Image of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) in China as a Healthcare Services Hub
摘要
Silver tourism for healthcare refers to the phenomenon of senior tourists searching for healthcare services outside their home country. Key pull factors are the destination image and government healthcare policies and push factors are senior tourists’ personality traits and travel constraints. The major destination image characteristics of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) in China, such as accessibility, supportive healthcare policies and variety of food cuisine, explain its potential to attract senior tourists. Various government healthcare collaborative policies have been introduced to promote healthcare services in the GBA, which strengthens the positive image of the GBA. Senior tourists’ personality traits in terms of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness and openness also play important factors in choosing healthcare services in the GBA. Lastly, discussing the travel constraints of senior tourists travelling abroad for healthcare services will explain the potential market opportunities in the GBA areas. Proactively promoting advanced healthcare services with unique travel attractions and high-quality hospitality experiences could sustain the senior tourism market in the GBA.
