Progress and Prospects in CRISPR Genome Engineering Nucleases
摘要
The term CRISPR has significantly impacted various fields of biomedicine and biotechnology in recent years. It stands for clustered regularly interspersed short palindromic repeats and is pronounced “crisper.” This technology has created new possibilities offering a wide range of applications, including genetic disease research, agriculture, and biotechnology. In particular, the elegantly simple system has proven to be an accurate, programmable, reliable, and powerful genetic tool for manipulating human cells. This review highlights the growth and perspectives of CRISPR genome engineering nucleases and summarizes the application in human disease research. The aim of this chapter is to provide an overview of the growth and development of the groundbreaking CRISPR technology and its successor gene editing tools, emphasizing their applications in investigating and treating human diseases.
