CT Angiography of Spleen

Patients are instructed to follow a low-residue diet the night prior to scanning and fast for at least 4 h before CTA scanning. The use of heavy metal drugs or gastrointestinal barium examination is prohibited at least 1 week before CTA scanning. Oral administration of negative contrast agent before CTA scanning can improve image quality. Patients are requested to drink 500–1000 mL of warm water for 15–20 min followed by an additional 200–300 mL of water when lying on the examination bed immediately before scanning to expand the stomach and duodenal ampulla to provide good contrast.
