Road Accident Data Analysis Using Tableau Data Visualisation

摘要

The fear of road accidents is a widespread phenomenon. The families of those involved in fatal road accidents suffer emotionally, psychologically and financially. Increased population increases need for transportation. This resulted in the rise in personal vehicles to make individual journeys comfortable. The increase in private vehicles made road travel more congested. All these circumstances led to an increase in accidents. Accidents can be small in nature, resulting in minor injuries, or serious in nature, resulting in fatalities. The research presented performs critical analyses on road accident data. This analyses helps in tracking critical segments that trigger a road accident. Various reasons may pertain to an accident like day of the week, time of the day, weather conditions, road conditions, driver faults or negligence. To highlight the main reasons behind accident severity the road accident data of 2005–2014 is considered. Pre-processing techniques like removing noisy data, filling in missing values and attribute selection methods are applied on the dataset to smoothen the data. The data under major categories is visualised using Tableau to find the different hidden patterns existed among the data. The identified conclusions help in decreasing the count and severity of accidents making road travel safer.
