The CHIP 2023 Shared Task 6: Chinese Diabetes Question Classification

Medical question classification is one of essential tasks in the processing of medical question data for enhancing the capability of medical automatic question answering systems. However, the unique characteristics of medical questions, such as the abundance of uncommon medical terms and the presence of ambiguous short texts, result in challenges to obtain the most essential information of user intents. The primary focus of this shared task is the classification of Chinese diabetes questions from patient users. The shared task was organized in an international conference CHIP 2023 and attracted anticipations of more than 20 teams from both industry and academia. Top three of these participants showed promising performance. This paper provides a concise overview and summary of the various approaches explored by the participating teams during the competition.
