Basics of Gas Barrier Materials

In this chapter, the applications of gas barrier materials, the reasons why gas molecules permeate substances, the structure, the manufacturing method, the evaluation method of gas barrier films, and the methods for preparing high gas barrier materials, including clay-based nanocomposite gas barrier materials, are explained. A patent survey and a recent report on barrier films issued by the Patent Office are introduced.
