Procedure for Building a Strong Patent Group

This chapter explains the process of building a strong patent portfolio; however, first, it discusses what a patent is and what constitutes a strong patent. This paper features a case study on the clay-based film developed by AIST. This section explains the overview and manufacturing process of the clay-based film, followed by a detailed explanation of the intellectual property strategy for the clay-based film, focusing on the efforts made within approximately 36 months of the invention. It then touches on the integrated development of the AIST consortium Clayteam and the standardization efforts that followed.
