摘要

Stresses (mechanical, herbivore, and insect damage) are the major threats that reduce plant yield and productivity. These stresses adversely modify the cellular and molecular responses of plants. Understanding these signal transduction pathways by which plants perceive stimulus from stresses and transmit the signals to cellular machinery to activate adaptive responses is of fundamental importance to biology. Knowledge about stress signal transduction is also vital for continued development of rational breeding and transgenic strategies to improve stress tolerance in crops. This chapter will concise and review the important player involved in signal transduction pathways in plants and then examine some recent studies on the functional analysis of signaling components. Finally, we attempt to understand the process of cellular communication within the plant body driven by cells releasing and receiving hormones and other signaling molecules under stresses.
