Sustainability in the Digital Era: Case Study of a Security Equipment Manufacturing SME

The importance of sustainable manufacturing (SM) has increased many folds in the digital manufacturing era. Traditional manufacturing leads to the generation of a considerable amount of waste and creates a negative impact on the environment. Moreover, for achieving sustainable development goals, the issue of SM must be addressed. However, the Indian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) find implementing SM a challenging task. In a current research paper, the authors have identified the enablers of SM from the literature and conducted a case study of its implementation. The authors used SWOT analysis to critically analyze the implementation of SM practices. The case organization is an Indian SME manufacturing security equipment. The interviews of the technical heads of the case organization were conducted to complete the methodology procedure.
