Automated Event Detection and Extraction from E-Mails

As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, many professionals, including students, teachers and engineers have transitioned their work to the online realm. Consequently, virtual meetings have become the norm and are typically scheduled through email or chat platforms. Events scheduled using conferencing platforms, such as Zoom, Google Meet, etc., automatically get added to the user’s calendar, however, when meeting details are shared as text in an email, they need to be manually added to the calendar to set up reminders. Unfortunately, given the sheer volume of emails received on a daily basis, it’s easy to miss important meeting details and appointments. To address this issue, we propose a novel method for extracting event information from emails and automatically adding it to calendars to ensure timely reminders. The precision of the model was evaluated as 74.2% and recall was 43.9%.
