Principles of Surgery for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

The objectives of surgical repair are to create a cosmetic appealing and functional external genitalia for girls with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) who have virilized genitalia. The surgical treatment of CAH is a controversial issue. There is no consensus regarding the timing of the repair, the indications for repair and also the surgical techniques adopted for feminizing genitoplasty. The type of repair and the need for redo procedures also vary. This chapter describes the basic principles regarding surgical repair aspects for CAH.
