Utilization of Indigenous Small Fish Species for Improving Health of Women and Children
摘要
The importance of indigenous small fish species cannot be undermined, especially in the context of their contribution to the diets of various regions. These fish species, which are characterized by their small size, and reach a maximum length of 25 cm or 9.8 inches, are highly valued in many developing countries. They represent a valuable source of protein and essential nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, which are particularly important for the health of women and children. Additionally, these smaller fish are often more affordable, making them an essential source of nutrition for impoverished communities. It is highly recommended that children and expectant mothers consume this extremely nutrient-dense food to promote normal growth and development. Indigenous small fish are crucial for the nutrition and livelihood security of people. However, the fish population is under constant threat due to habitat loss, overfishing, and pollution.
