Exploration and Application of Aggregation-Induced Emission Materials in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Urological Diseases

The design and development of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) materials have significantly expanded the scope of fluorescence detection technologies and optical therapies for the diagnosis and treatment of biological diseases. Compared to conventional aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) dyes, AIE materials often exhibit better photostability, higher signal-to-background ratios, superior ROS generation, and photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE), which make them more suitable for complex biological environments in the human body. Attributed to the unique anatomical structure, a variety of disease diagnostic biosensors and optical therapeutic agents based on AIE materials have been reported in recent years for the diagnosis and treatment of urological disorders, providing a series of new solutions for the clinical practice of such diseases. This section focuses on the advancements made thus far in the use of AIE materials in the diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases and confirms the strong potential of AIE materials in biomarker detection, disease imaging, and optical therapy from multiple perspectives, aiming to provide some guidance for the future clinical application of AIE materials.
