摘要

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects motor and non-motor functions, including speech. This study investigates the acoustic-phonetic characteristics of Bengali vowels of native speakers with PD compared to a normal control group. Participants were asked to perform a series of speech tasks, and their speech was recorded for analysis. The PD patients’ speech analysis revealed reduced vowel space area and a higher degree of variability in formant values (F1 and F2). Therefore, the results show significant changes in the acoustic properties of vowels in PD patients compared to the control group, which can have implications for speech therapy. This study contributes to the understanding of the impact of PD on Bengali speakers’ speech and highlights the need for further research in this area.
