The Food Crisis in the New Cold War Era and Korea’s Response

  • Cherl-Ho Lee

摘要

The world food situation is worsening in the twenty-first century. The global food crisis is increasingly visible due to frequent and massive climate change caused by global warming, the spread of human and livestock infectious diseases, and international conflicts. This chapter covers the 2007–2008 world grain price hike, the subsequent food crisis caused by extreme weather, the prevalence of infectious livestock diseases and the burying out system, the new normal caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the global food crisis caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The chapter evaluates the Korean food situation and analyzes the status of the Korean food industry. Protocols and activities of the Korea Food Security Research Foundation (a response by Korean scholars to the global food crisis) are introduced.
