Herbs as Therapeutics and Healers

Herbs have long been practiced for their therapeutic and medical properties in addition to their aesthetic and culinary benefits. Since ancient times, people have looked to nature for healing from illnesses. Herbal folklore traditions for the medicinal applications of plants were transmitted from generation to generation through familial oral histories and experiential learning before written history. Herbal medicines are the naturally occurring substances which are derived from the plants and used to cure ailments based on indigenous practices. Although the composition of each type of plant varies, they all include active ingredients that might influence different bodily processes. Herbs can heal in a variety of ways possessing various unique therapeutic properties. This chapter describes the therapeutic and healing properties of various herbs which play significant role in healthcare management.
