Deformable Mirrors and Their Control Algorithms

Deformable mirror is the key device to realize wavefront correction in adaptive-optics system, and its performance directly determines the wavefront-distortion correction ability of the system. This chapter summarizes the research progress of deformable mirrors at home and abroad. Taking several typical deformable mirrors as examples, the classification, modeling, and main performance indicators of deformable mirrors are introduced. Mirrors, thin film deformable mirrors, dual-piezoelectric deformable mirrors, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), deformable mirrors, and voice-coil deformable mirrors are introduced in detail. The correction accuracy of different control algorithms for wavefront distortion is analyzed, and the work done by Xi’an University of Technology in this field is also introduced. Finally, the future technological breakthroughs and improvement directions in this field are pointed out.
