Assessment of Green Rural Road Criteria Based on MyGreen Rural Road Index (MyRRI): A Case Study in Lumut Perak

摘要

A sustainable road or green rural road is a road project that has been developed with green infrastructure and furniture which fulfill the need of global standard of road construction project. Basically, the green road is one of the key areas for a sustainable concept with social, environmental and economic aspect addressed clearly. It is significant that stakeholders of rural road construction include a sustainability criterion in their projects. Therefore, this paper aimed to identify the important factor which supported with proper criteria of the development of My Green Rural Road Index. The elements that were identified were categorized into specific criteria. The factors were compared with another established index in Malaysia. The questionnaire is validated through group discussion involved road experts from UPNM, UTM and UiTM. Next, 100 respondents from Lumut, Perak were surveyed to ascertain the factors of sustainability of rural road in this area. SPSS was used to examine the data using factor analysis method. Based on findings there were four main sustainable factors and based on the findings the most important criteria in Lumut was ‘Environmental and Water Management’ due to its location and socio-economic activity. As expected the study able to finalize 4 rural road criteria and 33 elements. The outcome of this study will be used as main component in MyRRI as the tool to assess the rural road development and maintenance work in Malaysia.
