An Investigation into the Architectural Environment of University Campuses Based on Space Syntax Analysis: A Case Study Conducted on the Campus of Hubei University of Technology

How to apply urban design analysis to examine the built campus environment has become a main concern in China as a result of the rapid development of universities and the increase in the number of students visiting these institutions. This paper conducts research based on space syntax theory and technology and analyzes the space syntax theory analysis and operation model of the campus of Hubei University of Technology. It was discovered through research that (1) the accessibility of roads has a positive link with the imageability of spatial elements, and (2) the improvement of the accessibility and convenience of roads is favorable to the improvement of the imageability of spatial components. (2) The road that has the highest attraction potential coincides with the element that has the highest mention rate on campus. This suggests that the attraction potential of the road has a positive effect on the mention rate of campus elements. Furthermore, increasing the density of the road network is conducive to increasing the frequency of campus elements, which ultimately results in an improvement in the cultural atmosphere of the campus. (3) The convenience of the road has a tight relationship with the sense of cultural atmosphere that exists on campus. Improving the convenience of the road and placing cultural landscapes on the road that are convenient both have a good impact on the overall cultural environment of the campus. In order to enhance the quality of the campus environment and contribute to the sustainable development of the architectural environment of the university campus, it is important to discuss the findings of the space syntax analysis. This will help improve the efficiency and attractiveness of the use of campus environmental space by the students of HUBT.
