Ice Loads in Structural Design: An Analysis of Global Normative Regulations

  • Dmitry Sharapov

摘要

The paper examines the normative regulations for ice loads on structures across various global regions, providing insight into the international engineering standards that address the challenges of ice accumulation. In North America, standards such as ASCE 7 and CSA codes. European practices are encapsulated within the Eurocodes, which, while primarily focused on snow loads, are adapted for ice load considerations in colder climates, supplemented by national annexes for region-specific conditions. Asian standards, including China’s GB 50009, Japan’s JIS, and South Korea’s KBC. The paper also touches cases, particularly in Canada, Russia, and Nordic countries, where the prevalence of icy conditions has led to the development of comprehensive and specialized codes. The study emphasizes the principles of safety, serviceability, and durability in ice load regulations and highlights the importance of local climatic data in shaping these standards. It underscores the imperative for engineers to adhere to these evolving regulations to ensure the safety and integrity of structures in ice-prone regions, illustrating the dynamic nature of engineering requirements in response to environmental demands.
