Integrating Marker-Assisted (MAS) and Genomic Selection (GS) for Plant Functional Trait Improvement
摘要
In plant breeding, the combination of genomic selection (GS) and marker-assisted selection (MAS) is a novel method for improving functional traits. To enable more accurate and effective selection, molecular markers linked to target qualities are identified and used in MAS. On the other side, genomic selection speeds up the breeding process by using genome-wide information to anticipate an individual’s genetic merit for complex traits. By integrating the advantages of both approaches, the synergy between MAS and GS has enormous potential to further plant functional trait development. Through this integration, genetic markers for both simple and polygenic features can be exploited, resulting in a more thorough and precise selection process. The collaborative effort that results improves breeding efficiency and speeds up the development of new plant varieties with better functional features, ultimately promoting sustainable agriculture and global food security.
