Early-age Cracking Control on Concrete with Reinforcing Bars

Reinforcing bars can not only contribute to the evolution of shrinkage stress, but also play an important role in resisting the shrinkage stress generated by other constraints. In this chapter, early-age cracking control on concrete with reinforcing bars is investigated. The results showed that the bond strength between reinforcing bars and high strength concrete increased with the increase of concrete age and concrete strength. The slip corresponding to bond strength decreased with the increase of concrete compressive strength. Besides, the cracking resistance increased for concrete reinforced with finer and denser reinforcing bars. A model for early-age autogenous shrinkage of high strength concrete with different reinforcement percentages was proposed.
