Early-age Cracking Control on High Strength Concrete with Polyvinyl Alcohol Fibers

High strength concrete with a low water-to-cement ratio is prone to cracking, thereby decreasing the durability. Many kinds of fibers such as polyvinyl alcohol fibers, polyethylene fiber, and steel fiber have been incorporated to enhance the concrete properties. Polyvinyl alcohol fibers have been employed as modified synthetic fibers for providing three-dimensional reinforcement. In this chapter, early-age cracking control on high strength concrete with polyvinyl alcohol fibers was investigated. The results showed that elastic modulus and compressive strength of high strength concrete decreased with polyvinyl alcohol fiber proportion increasing. Relaxed stress of high strength concrete increased as polyvinyl alcohol fiber proportion increased. The early-age compressive creep and tensile creep of high strength concrete increased with increasing polyvinyl alcohol fiber proportion.
