Introduction

This chapter begins with an explanation of the distinction between assistance and service dogs for people with disabilities. This is followed by an explanation about the relevance of this book for the Modern Perspectives on Disability Research SpringerBrief series. This study’s research questions and the rationale for them are then stated. In the following order the search procedures for retrieving relevant citations, the methodological strengths and weaknesses of this study, the intended audience and benefits of this book, and a description of the upcoming chapters are then explained.
