Kinetics of Microbial Growth, Substrate Consumption, and Product Formation
摘要
Microbial activities could be utilized for the production of secondary metabolites such as antibiotics, growth hormones, etc. The microorganisms can grow on different types of substrates which makes them promising candidates for pharmaceutical, environmental, and other industrial applications. To understand the microbial transformation processes, it is necessary to understand the various kinetic models associated with microbial growth, substrate utilization, and product formation kinetics. Also, various controlling parameters need to be optimized through model development for different types of biological reactors. In this regard, the focus is on topics related to development of kinetics models for microbial growth in batch reactors, chemostats, plug flow fermenters, fed-batch reactors, and immobilized cell systems.
