Advances in Bioreactor Design for Plant Cell Culture
摘要
The growing interest in disposable bioreactors has taken the world with stride. Bioreactors are well-controlled engineered systems that hold the capability of supporting a biologically active situation for conducting aerobic or anaerobic biochemical processes. Bioreactors have been used for growth and metabolite production from various eukaryotic and prokaryotic hosts. The plant system attracts special scientific interest due to varied morphological forms and design of bioprocess operations accordingly. One of the major challenges in the mass scale cultivation of myriad of morphological forms of plants is the validation of the process that necessitates the need to explore alternative solutions. The choice of the bioreactor and its optimization has been proven a great tool towards the successful production of desired metabolites. The recent advancement in the design of the bioreactor is important for developing strategic approaches for growth and metabolite production from plant systems. Plant cells are also used as an alternative host for recombinant protein production. Recent advances in bioreactor design for specific applications and the introduction of disposable bioreactors are a breakthrough solution to the regulatory requirements and validation guidelines. Various types of bioreactor designs used for plant culturing and metabolite yield thereof are presented.
