Nanostructured Materials and Design Concept for Electronic Nose
摘要
An electronic nose (e-nose) has gained a lots of attention in the last few years due to its necessity in several fields, including health care, environmental monitoring, industrial applications, petroleum products, military, food storage, etc. E-nose devices are detecting and identifying the various flavors by using a sensor array and it has been used for a wide range of applications. However, its development still faces several problems, which can be reduced by taking the advantages from nanostructured materials synthesized by various methods. A vast amount of data from diverse sensing nanostructured materials detected at the molecular interactions has been utilized for the practical applications of e-noses. In addition, a plethora of metal oxides has been used for fabricating the small, simple, and inexpensive e-nose which are sensitive to a wide range of gases. The gas sensors are integrated into an e-nose that receive the signals from non-selective sensors and analyzes them with multivariate statistical methods to obtain selectivity in applications with a wide range of potential interfering gases. This chapter highlights the various designs of the e-noses based on nanostructured materials that can be used for multipurpose applications. The chapter focuses on the future e-nose trends where the Internet of Things, Machine Learning, Wearable Devices, and Mobile Systems can be used.
