摘要

The record ed fluctuating trend in yellow corn production over the years in the municipality of Rizal, Kalinga Province in the Philippines, can be attributed to climatic hazards such as typhoon, monsoon rains, drought, and prolonged dry season affecting the municipality. These phenomena put pressure on the production causing damages and reduction in the yield of corn. For farmers to adapt or mitigate the negative effects of these hazards, several mechanisms and adaptation strategies are practiced coping with the production losses. These include availing of crop insurance, proper selection of yellow corn varieties, use of combine harvester and mechanization to speed up harvesting time, and other appropriate post-production activities. Among the identified adaptation and mitigation practices by the farmers is proper selection of appropriate varieties, which is considered practical and accessible technology that can be readily adapted by the farmers in the area.
