Establishment and Implementation of the Surveillance Network

The parasitic diseases in the routine reporting system for notifiable infectious diseases include only schistosomiasis, malaria, hydatid disease, Kala-azar, filariasis, and amoebic dysentery. Related disease surveillance reports can quickly reflect the epidemic situation and development of these parasitic diseases to a certain extent. However, as hospitals at all levels still have certain limitations in reporting notifiable diseases, such as incomplete reports and unrepresentative reports, and these reports are limited to cases requiring medical treatment after the onset of disease, it is difficult for conventional reporting systems to truly and comprehensively reflect the transmission characteristics and epidemic trends of these notifiable parasitic diseases. Therefore, it is necessary for the parasitic disease monitoring network system to combine the objectives of disease prevention and control planning in different periods and establish different monitoring systems to support the whole parasitic disease monitoring network to achieve the purposes of timely detection of epidemic situations, effective evaluation of prevention and control effects, and scientific guidance of prevention and control planning. These monitoring systems include laboratory monitoring based on laboratory tests, symptom monitoring based on hospital cases, active monitoring based on specific populations, sentinel monitoring based on specific sites, pest-resistant host and vector monitoring based on animals or vectors, parasite population distribution monitoring in pathogen-based environments, intervention input monitoring based on database areas for disease prevention and control, public opinion monitoring based on vector-borne disease information, epidemic factor monitoring based on transmission risk factors, and parasite resistance and vector insecticide resistance monitoring based on drug use.
