摘要

The CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats)-Cas (CRISPR-associated protein) technology, which was once thought of as the bacterial immune system against invading viruses, is currently transforming various crop species. It has now developed as a promising biotechnological toolbox that enables precise and efficient targeted modification for the improvement of agricultural traits. A comprehensive overview of CRISPR-Cas9 technology and its mechanism has been provided in this study. We have also provided insight into several CRISPR/Cas9-related plant biotechnologies, including construct designing, off-target minimization, and delivery methods. The applications of this technique for stress management and nutrition enhancement specifically in potato have been highlighted. In addition, biosafety, biosecurity, and patent issues along with the extant status of this technique in India have also been discussed in this chapter.
