Indian Sustainable Subtropical Potato Crop Management
摘要
Adaptation of potato crop to subtropical climate has revolutionized potato production at the global level, and this has served the humanity a lot by way of contributing to food and nutritional security. For this, India should be considered as a case study as efforts of researchers, potato farmers, extension workers and other stakeholders have broken several barriers of varietal development, seed production, agro-technologies and diversified utilization of this crop including export. No doubt that the exploitation of genetic resources of this crop and varietal breeding remains at the core of the whole success story, but the development of production technologies for seed, table and processing purposes is also equally pertinent. This subject shall remain a priority as the impact of climate change is creating new challenges for sustaining potato yields in an uncertain scenario of the whole environment. Work is now ongoing on new aspects of sustainable crop management apart from conventional field technologies to find solutions for oncoming problems and threats.
