摘要

This chapter highlights the main findings provided in this study, including the newly defined categories under lawyer evaluation and the particular pattern of lawyer speech that has been observed in Chinese courts. The proposed sub-variable, Social Punishment,  which falls under Judgement alongside Social Esteem and Social Sanction, embodies the cultural history of the law in China; Shaped by the situational and cultural contexts of the adversarial trials in China, lawyers tend to adopt a rational stance in their approach to conflict and confrontation, which is reflected in a speech pattern different from that of their counterparts in the west. After briefly analyzing the implications this study may offer for legal language studies and discourse analysis, this chapter concludes by acknowledging its limitations and proposing avenues for further research. .
