Islam, Muslims, and State

To understand Islam and Muslims in Indonesia, there is a need to scope them within the context of the Indonesian society and the state they are living in. In the previous introduction chapter, we have explained the various points for consideration in understanding Islam. We will explain in the current chapter, the historical factors as they relate to various provinces in Indonesia as well as the binding factors that influence and shape the Islamic discourse in the country.
